FRASER ROGERS has signed to ride for the Com Plus SMS team in the World Supersport Championship of 2014 – on the strength of one wildcard ride in the series last year.

It means the 17-year-old motorcycling ace from Hullavington will be competing on the major world stages of his sport.

The Supersport series is a supporting event to the World Superbike Championship and takes in 14 races in 13 countries.

And it is just a month before Fraser begins his global schedule as the opening race takes place at Phillip Island in Australia on February 23. The series ends on November 2

There is only one British round in the series – at Donington Park on May 25

Rogers, a former Wilts & Glos Standard sports grant winner, has worked his way through the ranks after winning Mini Moto events as a kid.

He won the Aprillia Superteens Championship in 2008 in his rookie year, and the Thundersport GB GP3 Championship the following season.

In 2010, Fraser competed in the British 125GP Championship finishing sixth overall. The 2011 and 2012 seasons saw Rogers compete in the Spanish CEV Buckler 125GP and Moto 3 Championship respectively.

Funding issues in 2013 saw Rogers’ racing schedule limited although he was given a wild card entry to ride a Honda for Com Plus in the final round of the World Supersport Championship in Jerez – and that was enough for the Czech team's boss Jan Saska.

He said: "We are preparing for our fourth season in the World Supersport Championship in 2014 and we were looking for an injection of young fresh talent into the team.

“We worked together in Jerez and I have seen the potential capability and aptitude of Fraser. I believe he has the potential to become an extremely successful and competitive rider over the coming years."

Rogers said: “I am very confident, that we have the potential to be in the top ten this season.

“This is a new era for me, the winter test in January in Spain and Philip Island in February will allow me time to get used to the Honda.”
