CIRENCESTER contributed to their own downfall with an error-strewn display at top-of-the-table Matson.

Matson 43

Cirencester 14

Ciren started well and had the better of the play for the first 10 minutes with Parry missing a penalty and Hill going over for a converted try on eight minutes after a clever kick and chase by Fisher.

From this score Matson seemed to wake up and they used the wind well kicking the ball long for the Ciren backs to field and try to clear.

On 11 minutes, a high up and under was not collected by Griffiths and from the knock-on the Matson winger kicked through and chased to score the first try which was converted (7-7).

Matson were not interested in using their back line and at every opportunity drilled the ball long. From one clearance they secured a line-out and the blindside move found no one at home for Ciren, taking the score to 12-7

Cirencester were set on running the ball and a good break from the 22 area by Alex Hammond saw them with an overlap. However, the ball was knocked forward and again the winger won the foot race to score out wide on 27 minutes to make it 17-7

Cirencester continued to be their own worst enemies with several mistakes handing Matson the fourth bonus-point try before half time (24-7).

At the start of the second half Cirencester conceded three try catch-and-drive tries, two of which were converted, to put the game well and truly out of their reach.

Cirencester to their credit kept attacking and started to use a similar tactic to Matson's from the first half, drilling the ball to the corners.

Thirty minutes in, Cirencester’s Bunce, Hill and Renowden kept the ball going forward and from a blindside move some interplay between Joe and Alex Hammond saw the skipper go over the whitewash for a second Cirencester try which Parry converted.

The end of the game petered out without further score.
