OLLIE BETTERIDGE has been called up to the GB U18s squad which will take part in the World Championships Division 2A tournament in Dumfries during March.

The 17-year old forward, who plays for the Swindon Wildcats in a two-way deal from the Nottingham Panthers, has made 25 appearances in a Wildcats jersey so far this season, scoring one goal and making seven assists.

He also gained International honours last month when representing the GB U20s.

The call-up will mean that Betteridge will be absent for the club's final two EPL games of the season (at home against the Basingstoke Bison and away against the Slough Jets) as well as any play-off quarter final games (which are due to take place on March 29 and 30).

Head coach Ryan Aldridge said: "I'm absolutely thrilled for Ollie, he fully deserves his place in the team.

"He's continued to develop his game here in Swindon and to play for your country is an opportunity too great to miss so although we'll be sad to lose him at such an important time of the season, we wish him well and it'll be an experience not to be missed."

THREE members of the Okanagan Hockey Academy based in Swindon have been called up for the GB U20s squad ahead of the World Championships in Dumfries.

Forwards Luc Johnson, Glen Billing and Michael Stratford were all named, while defence man Ben Nethersell has also been placed on the side's long-list, so will remain on stand-by in case of any squad injuries.
