DOUBLE ROSS collected his second valuable handicap chase at Cheltenham in little more than a fortnight despite filthy conditions on New Year’s Day.
The Nigel Twiston-Davies-trained chaser won the Stewart Family Gold Cup, worth £56,000 to the winner, in mid-December and his victory in Wednesday’s Fairlawne Handicap Chase topped up the coffers by a further £28,000.
Double Ross survived an opening-fence blunder but was foot perfect thereafter and landed 11-8 favouritism in convincing fashion.
Double Ross eventually beat Cedre Bleu by four and a half lengths and the trainer said: “He handled the (heavy) ground well and I shall enter him in all the novice chases at the Festival."
Successful jockey Sam Twiston-Davies added: "He is a relentless galloper, who keeps going.
"I was just a little worried that it might have been too soon after his win at the last meeting - all credit to the girl who looks after him, she told me he was as fresh and well as he has been all season."
