SPEEDWAY: Klindt back for second spell at the Robins

Wilts and Gloucestershire Standard: Nicolai Klindt Nicolai Klindt

DANISH star Nicolai Klindt is on his way back to Swindon next season for his second spell with the club.

Klindt has been confirmed as the final member of the Robins’ 2014 septet – and boss Alun Rossiter firmly believes he can get his top-flight career back on track.

Klindt, who turned 25 on Sunday, was one of the few success stories of Swindon’s difficult 2011 campaign when he joined the club after the opening month of the season and finished second in the averages behind Scott Nicholls.

But an injury-hit 2012 back with parent club Wolverhampton and a tough time in spells with King’s Lynn and Peterborough last year, prior to regaining his confidence in the Premier League with Sheffield, saw his Elite average tumble to under 4.50.

That means he slots into the Robins’ top five alongside skipper Troy Batchelor, Peter Kildemand, Nick Morris and new signing Simon Gustafsson.

Rossiter said: “Nicolai has ridden for Swindon before when I was at Coventry, and he picked up the Rider of the Year award from racing in a hard position at No.5.

“He’s had a difficult couple of years in the wilderness but he’s told me he’s invested heavily in equipment this winter, and he means business. I just think it’s the right move for both of us, and I feel his experience could be invaluable.

“I’m confident he will come good this year. He’s gone through a bad spell – he’s admitted he had a few personal problems and also he had his first child which was probably a distraction, but I’m sure in the right environment he can do the job.

“He rode well at Swindon before and I’m sure we can get more out of him. He’s certainly much better than his average – he knows where he’s gone wrong and he’s looking to put it right.”
