THE WESSEX area point-to-point kicks off on Sunday, January 5 with the Larkhill Racing Club fixture at Larkhill, Wiltshire, writes Brian Armstrong.

Twenty-two meetings are scheduled in Wessex, culminating in the Weston & Banwell’s evening fixture at Cothelstone, Somerset, on Wednesday, May 14.

Wiltshire-based trainers to look out for include Charlotte Fear (née Tizzard), who sent out five winners from her Wingfield near Trowbridge base last season, and relies on the same three horses for 2014.

These are Wincanton hunter chase winner Coombe Hill, Badbury Rings and Cothelstone winner Little Cornham and Larkhill specialist Parstara, who took her tally at the Wiltshire venue to three.

Figheldean near Larkhill racecourse owner-trainers Sally and Stan Rawlins, who enjoyed a popular recent success under rules with Sidbury Hill, will again race Righteous Glory, who will be aimed at the Royal Artillery Hunt race in January.

Camilla Baylis will race five horses including Dads Birthday and Blue Spartan, who was both placed in two of their four 2013 outings, Dizzy Delights and Littlewindsor runner-up Letham Cottage from her Maiden Bradley base.
