They came out the blocks quickly, taking an early lead following Dom Randall's break from midfield. Elliot doubled the lead soon after when he fired into the top corner from the edge of the box before Ben Lemos made it three with barely 20 minutes gone.

South Cerney showed admirable spirit and struck back just before the break to make it 3-1. Neither side was at their best in the second half as defence outperformed attack until Dom scored his second, finishing well at the near post.

Still, Cerney fought back, reducing the deficit with an unstoppable free-kick to cause a tense finish but Avonvale held on to take the three points.

WITH both teams having secured their places in the quarter finals of the Stroud & Swindon Cup prior to this fixture they could relax a little.

But in difficult wet and muddy conditions both teams provided a great game. Vale relaxed a little too much at the start and within two minutes Rovers had taken the lead. But Vale got into their stride and drew level through Aiden Smith.

Vale absorbed more pressure in a spell leading up to the break. However, they took the game to Rovers in the second period and were unfortunate not to take the three points when Jordan Newman rattled the crossbar from a fine free kick.
