DOUBLE ROSS will attempt to begin the new year as he finished the old at Cheltenham racecourse.
The Nigel Twiston-Davies-trained chaser collected the last big Cheltenham prize of 2013 – the £100,000 Stewart Family Thank You Gold Cup, run at the International meeting.
Now the seven-year-old’s sights are on one of two possible targets on the popular January 1 meeting at the iconic Gloucestershire venue.
Twiston-Davies reported: "Double Ross could now go to Cheltenham for either the Fairlawne Handicap Chase or Cheltenham Pony Club Raceday Novices' Chase – we will have a look at both.
"I was very pleased with his performance at Cheltenham and he has come out of the race great.
"He surprised us a bit because we thought he needed soft going, but he handled the better ground fine.
"I thought he was getting tired at the end and we will just have to wait and see how far he can go."
New Year's Day at Cheltenham offers a seven-race card running from 12.10 through to 3.40.
As well as the racing, Cheltenham hosts its usual shopping village. Gates open at 10.30am and accompanied children aged under 18 gain FREE admission.
