Gloucestershire & Somerset PGA Medal
SALTFORD touring professional Laurie Canter produced a stunning five under par round of 66 in tricky conditions to win the Gloucester and Somerset PGA Medal at the Kendleshire.
Following the previous week's wash-out at Stinchcombe Hill a record field in recent times of 36 players arrived to do battle.
Canter, who is warming up for his upcoming quest for a European Tour card, was the only player to break par and held a comfortable five-shot winning margin over Bath assistant pro James Hannam and Enmore Park’s David Dixon on level par scores of 71.
Cirencester head pro Ed Goodwin was one of four players tied for fifth place on scores of 73, one shot behind globe-trotting Paul Barrington.
Trick shot specialist Barrington returned from a weekend entertaining guests at the Macau Open to show he hadn’t forgotten the best way around The Kendleshire.
He was the club’s first ever professional when the course opened and his one over par 72 made him the leading over 40s player in the field.
