LIZA DARROCH completed her quest for a full set of club LV65 age-group records and did this one in style, with an inaugural marathon record.
CIRENCESTER AC and TRIATHLON CLUB
Abingdon Marathon, 26.2 miles, roads
Although disappointed that she lost six minutes in the second 13 miles, her 4:11.53 still gave her fourth FV55 and a top ten national standing in Power of 10. Partner Rupert Chesmore ran with her and they finished together, 535th out of 703 runners. The winner was Ben Fish (Blackburn Harriers) 2:26.55.
Horton Bull Run, 6miles multi-terrain
RUN around the picturesque village of Horton in South Gloucestershire, this autumn race is more challenging than the spring event and it brings out a quality field. Despite a nasty weather forecast the runners faced benign conditions and David Wright (39.37) ran very strongly, stayed decisively ahead of his age-group competition and finished fourth overall and first MV55.
Kate Fitton (47.05), always up for a challenge, finished 18th overall, third lady and first in the F15-40 age-group. The winner was J Rowley (36.58) and 73 finished.
Stroud Duathlon, Glos
WITH a 5km trail run, a 15km bike topped off with another 5km trail run this race is not for the unfit, particularly when you throw in hills and mud. Mark Sysum (1:26.30) spent a lot of time on his bike earlier this year as he recovered from surgery, and all that pedalling paid off as he finished fourth overall. Colin Tapley (1:35.46) has had one of his best seasons both running and in triathlon and he followed up those successes with a 13th overall. The winner was Chris Stuart, (1:23.00) of the Army, and 44 finished.
BARBARA THOMAS made her regular Saturday trip to Lydiard Park, Swindon and finished 91st and first FV55 in 24.55. The winner was Andrew Ind (Marlborough RC) in 17.35 and 342 finished. Meanwhile, Ruth Fulford drove up to Pittville Park, Cheltenham finishing 162nd out of 225 and her time of 28.36 gave her second FV65. The race winner was William New (Cheltenham and County Harriers) in 17:35.
