PETER REED made his first appearance at the British Rowing Championships a successful one when lifting gold medals with the Leander Club in both the Men's Four and Men's Eight.
On both occasions, Leander got the better of great rivals Molesey BC on the water at Nottingham.
The inclusion of many of the GB Rowing team national squad at this year's British Championships was made possible by a shift on the calendar for the event from its traditional July slot.
The Men's Four final produced an exciting race in which Molesey, featuring Olympic medal-winning squad members Moe Sbihi, James Foad and George Nash, along with Phil Congdon, took the race to Leander, who fielded Olympic and world medallists in Reed, fellow Gloucestershire rower Alex Gregory, Tom Ransley and Will Satch.
Leander, based at Henley-on-Thames, proved too strong, however, and ultimately took the title.
The all-star Leander quartet of former Cirencester Deer Park pupil Reed, Gregory, Ransley and Satch were joined in the eight by cox Phelan Hill, another world champion Dan Ritchie, as well as Matt Gotrel, Lance Tredell and Alan Sinclair.
Molesey's line-up again boasted Nash, Sbihi and Foad along with former World University Champion and European finalist Fred Gill.
Leander nosed ahead after 250m and gradually built up enough of a lead to hold off Molesey's determined late effort.
