The Bugatti 10k
THE Bugatti 10k was the tenth race (of 12) in the Gloucestershire county road race series, and many of the Bourton Roadrunners who headed to the Prescott Hill Climb for the race had their eyes on a prize.
It helped to have an incentive to run, since the course was challenging (with a ruthless climb over the final kilometre) and the weather was downright miserable.
Persistent cold rain meant a shivery pre-race huddle on the start line followed by mid-race dilemmas about whether to splash through the enormous puddles or lose precious
seconds by dodging them.
First for Bourton and second in the race was Cal Winwood (35.08), followed by Mike Smith (third, 1st MV40 in 35.47). Shona Crombie-Hicks
had clearly recovered from the Jersey Marathon the previous weekend, finishing first lady and ninth overall (39.52).
Steph Lane continued her steady progression this season with third lady (42.45). John Gibson
ran his last race as a MV50 (he celebrated
his 60th birthday the following day), posting a superb 43.44. Steph Holton sped in next (46.31) just ahead of Ali Lane (1st FV55 in 46.34). Graham Lane was next (47.50), followed by Chris Dry (48.03).
Bourton runners continued to stream in: Susan Hunt (48.38), Brian Hulcup (49.26), Liz Hulcup (49.50), David Pyne (51.04), Gill Carrick
(52.07), Norm Lane (54.19) and Lynn Hudson (54.41).
The Bourton men's team of Cal, Mike and John scooped first prize (a first ever team prize for John) and the ladies' team of Shona and the two Stephs took second prize.
