Cirencester League Div 1
The Beeches 5
Stratton United 2
HAVING been the better team before the break, Stratton imploded in the second half to lose 5-2 to The Beeches.
Stratton conceded early – a Beeches corner being headed in at the back post by Mark Warriner.
But the home side slowly grew into the game and Ian Shaw headed home an equaliser from an Shaun Browning corner.
Despite playing the better football, Stratton found themselves behind before half-time when Sean Wiltshire scored from close range.
Stratton gifted two quick-fire goals to Beeches after the break which put paid to any chance of a revival – one came from the penalty spot by Ian Sutherland, the other a clever chip from Jimmy Mitchell.
Stratton regained their composure and were playing all the passing football again. With 20 minutes remaining, Dan Browning scored with a lovely curling effort into the top corner.
Any hopes were soon dashed, though, as Stratton's back line went AWOL again, giving Richard Sutton an easy tap-in.
MoM: Ian Shaw.
THE proceedings began on a sombre note, as both teams gathered around the centre circle for a minute's silence in memory of former player Robbie 'Oppo' Hopkins who died suddenly last weekend. A great player and an even better bloke who'll be sadly missed by all.
