HIGHWORTH-BASED rally driver Shelly Taunt, successfully finished the Trackrod Rally Yorkshire in a creditable 17th place overall – but, more importantly, secured second in her class.
The Subaru Impreza driver battled her way through the prestigious event, part of the British
Championship and the BTRDA Championship.
Taunt, who along with regular co-driver Julie Murphy hadn’t competed for more than ten months, said: “Despite years of competing, I still get quite nervous before an event and sometimes this can show in my results.
"It took a couple of stages to settle in, and to get the feel of the car and how it handles on the gravel surface. But we gradually picked up pace and with no major dramas surprisingly walked away with second in class.”
The result earned the duo a trophy for their efforts and they can now look forward to their next event, The Rallye Sunseeker, which starts on Friday evening in Poole.
The duo will compete in the national section of the event which on Saturday takes them out to the forest stages of Dorset and Hampshire.
