COTSWOLD Gymnastics Club's five-strong boys' squad returned from the Gloucestershire County Championships in the Forest of Dean on Sunday with a bronze medal and a string of high placings.
It was an excellent effort in a tough competition against clubs who train out of purpose-built facilities.
The Cotswold boys held their own and demonstrated balance, power and determination to deliver on the day. In the U8s competition, both Alex Cunningham and Joseph Gray perfectly landed their handspring vaults, with Joseph taking second place in the rankings.
In the floor routines, Alex was one of only two competitors successfully executing the 'round off back flick'. Both boys performed really well with Joseph missing out on an overall bronze medal by just 0.2 of a mark.
In the U10s group, Quinn Shaw delivered a very clean floor routine successfully landing his 'round off back somersault', the only competitor in this group to perform this more difficult move. On the vault, Alasdair Hills executed a near-perfect 'squat through', landing without a wobble, and Jack Woodley’s power and attack demonstrated clean flight and height through his handspring vault, landing him a superb score of 10.90, which earned third on this apparatus.
Overall, Jack successfully took the bronze which was a fantastic result and only 0.85 of a mark from the gold.
Quinn Shaw was close behind in fourth, narrowly missing a medal position by 0.2 of a mark.
