Cirencester Football League round-up

SHERSTON may well consider themselves to be the Cirencester League Division One whipping boys, but they have spirit, and this was evident from their opening fixture against league leaders Poulton, who were made to battle for a 4-2 victory.
Sherston twice took the lead through a Tom Bourne penalty and a close range strike from Adam Salt, but Poulton struck back each time through Dan Read as Sherston failed to deal effectively with Poulton`s aerial strength at corners.
A John Dawson shot, which took a wicked deflection, and a Rob Paget strike gave the visitors a comfortable half-time lead but the second half was anything but comfortable as Sherston pressed forward strongly and looked the most likely of the two teams to score.
Poulton managed to hang on, however, to maintain their 100 per cent record.
Bibury Reserves retained second spot following a 2-2 home draw with The Beeches, for whom Danny Gudger scored twice.
James Shannon was also twice on target for South Cerney as they beat Real Fairford 3-0. Matt Lamont scored the other Cerney goal.
CHQ Utd recorded a second consecutive away win with a 4-1 victory at Oaksey, with Toby Clapton, Richard Gardner, Jamie Morse and Ben Saunders scoring. Jake Pinnell got Oaksey`s consolation goal.
Kingshill Sports are the leaders of Division Two after they thrashed Minety 14-0. The visitors have now lost their three opening games and have yet to score, but hopefully they will soon lift the gloom.
CHQ Utd Res recorded their first victory of the season with a 3-0 home success over Down Ampney, with Fabian Daniels (2) and Richard Stearn scoring.
There was an exciting finish to the game at Tetbury III, where Oaksey Res snatched a last-gasp 5-4 victory.
Oaksey raced into a two-goal lead inside the first 20 minutes, but the home side pegged them back and led 3-2. Oaksey equalised in the final quarter, and then in the last five minutes struck twice to lead 5-3 before a last-minute strike from Tetbury completed the scoring.
Kier Miles (2), Bradley Wickson, Benjamin Wood and Nicky Warman scored for Oaksey, with John Bell, Nick Moulder, Tom Ruther and Dan Scott replying for Tetbury.
There was another close game at Lechlade Res as they edged out South Cerney Res 4-3. Jason Cobb, Tony Hicks, Khyas Stone and Ollie Waite were on target for the home side. Liam Hayden scored twice for the visitors, with the other goal coming from Nathan Litler.
