English Premier League.
Peterborough Phantoms 3.
Swindon Wildcats 4.
(after overtime and a penalty shoot-out).
THE Wildcats completed a successful four-point weekend after overcoming the Peterborough Phantoms in an eventual shoot-out after drawing the match 3-3 in normal and overtime.
The Phantoms struck first via Will Weldon before the 16th minute brought two quick goals - one for either side.
Firstly, it was a powerplay effort courtesy of Swindon's Jonas Hoog before Erik Piatak immediately restored his side’s lead.
In the second period, Hoog equalised with an impressive individual effort.
With just ten minutes remaining, the Phantoms thought they had the game won when Marcel Petran shot between Steve Lyle’s pads. However Swindon were not to be denied – and neither was Hoog as he completed his hat-trick.
There were no further scores in overtime and it went to a third round in the penalty shoot-out. Phantoms' import Jaroslav Cesky had his shot saved by Lyle and then Hoog capped his fine display by hitting the puck past King in the Peterborough net to clinch the win.
Swindon will next take to home ice on Saturday evening when they face Manchester Phoenix.
