POPPY CLARK and Charlie Hosking of the Malmesbury Marlins Swimming Club have won medals at the European Biathle Championships in Lisbon, Portugal where they represented Team GB.
Poppy lifted a silver medal and Charlie took a bronze.
The excellent performances have earned the nine-year-olds a place on the GB team for the World Biathle Championships at Limassol, Cyprus on Saturday, October 5.
Biathle is a dual discipline competition involving a 500m run, 50m swim then a final run of 500m at their age group.
Poppy and Charlie came to the notice of the selectors when competing in a prestigious biathle event at Lewiston, Dorset earlier in the year. They then smashed the qualifying time for the Europeans at an event at Millfield School.
The first running leg in Portugal was staged over uneven cobbles before the pair tackled the harsh currents of the 50m open sea swimming stage. Poppy entered the water in second place in the Girls’ event; Charlie was fifth in the Boys’.
Poppy exited the water in second, a position she gallantly held through to the finishing line to win silver.
Charlie battled past two rivals in the swim and then executed a brilliant transition from swim to final run before bravely holding on to bronze in a exciting sprint finish.
