FORMER European Tour player Stuart Little (Minchinhampton New) has a chance of returning to the tour for selected events next year after qualifying for the PGA Titleist Play-Offs in Turkey.
After a nerve-wracking wait in the final event of the season at Woodbury Park, Little was confirmed in second place in the West Region series.
He resisted the challenge of another ex-Tour man Sion Bebb (Vale Hotel) who was the only other realistic challenger to the leading three before the event.
Leader Liam Bond (St Pierre) triumphed after a three-hole play-off against Graham Howell (Ferndown Forest) to win his fourth event in six outings and remain No.1.
Little shot 70 and 71 for a three-under-par return of 141.
“It was just enough,” said the relieved left-hander. “When I missed out on making another appearance in the PGA Cup team against America I set my sights on claiming a play-off place.”
The leading players in the £15,000 play-offs in November qualify for selected entry into European Tour and Challenge tour events next year.
Ed Goodwin, the Cirencester professional, was temporary leader in the clubhouse after a fighting second round of five-under-par 67, but just missed out. He said: “I had no bogeys and it could have been so much better. I three-putted 16 from 40 feet and missed a six-footer on 17. The first green I missed was the last.”
He opened with 71 and finished in a three-way tie for fifth on 138, three shots behind the leaders.
He said: “I didn’t expect very much this week as I have just returned from a family holiday in Majorca.
“But I just relaxed and got on with it and it worked out pretty well.”
CHARLOTTE ELLIS, who is coached by Stuart Little, made the cut in the Helsingborg Open on the Ladies European Tour in Sweden last week, but a poor final round saw her slip down the leaderboard after some excellent golf in her second and third rounds.
