TETBURY’S Danny Kent had a tough weekend at his home round of the Moto2 world championship - the British Grand Prix at Silverstone - where he finished in 18th place after a strong start, writes Alannah Fellows.
With a stronger set-up on his Mistral 610 machine, Kent began the weekend positively finishing combined free practice in sixth position. However, a crash in qualifying ended Kent’s chances of securing a high grid position, resulting in the 19-year-old starting the race from 27th position.
The MMCG Tech 3 rider put in a solid performance in the Moto2 race, which was won by fellow Brit Scott Redding.
Kent said: “I knew it was going to be a very difficult race after qualifying so far down but I have to take the positives from the weekend.
“Going into qualifying I was sixth in practice and really happy with the performance of the Mistral 610. At least I know I can run the pace at the front but the crash in qualifying really put me on the back foot and it is a shame I couldn’t finish in the points in my home race.
“I got a good start in the race and made up a few places but after the crash my hip kept cramping up and it was difficult. Now I am determined to bounce back in Misano and show the pace throughout that we had in practice here.”
The MotoGP paddock now heads to Italy for the San Marino GP on September 15.
CIRENCESTER schoolboy Jordan Weaving had a mixed weekend in the competitive Red Bull Rookies Cup at Silverstone, securing two top ten finishes.
Weaving qualified in 14th position for the sixth round of the season and was feeling confident he would soon make up the places in the race providing he got a strong start.
When the lights went out, Weaving was soon fighting in the leading group. However, the 16-year-old dropped back slightly to cross the line in eighth.
Race two on Sunday provided just as much drama. Weaving battled into seventh position around the Northamptonshire track, however he had to settle for tenth at the finish.
He now lies 13th in the Rookies Cup standings with two rounds left in Misano and Aragon.
Weaving heads next to Donington Park for the next round of his other championship series, the Motostar class this weekend.
