Uhlsport Hellenic League Div 1 West.
Purton 1 Tuffley Rovers 3.
IT WAS doom and gloom last Saturday at the Red House when Purton, after three league wins on the trot, came unstuck against visitors Tuffley Rovers, writes Alan Eastwood.
Purton had Blaine Fitzgerald, Darren Brown, Steven May, Jack Duckers Ryan Child and Tom Goodey missing, while Jamie Richards, who was still suffering from a throat illness, and late arrival Ashley Gooch both started on the bench.
Purton had the better of things in the first half, Dave Gee shooting just wide early on while the hosts were also guilty of missing three good chances, with Jamie McGahey's finishing letting him down.
Purton went ahead, though, after 39 minutes when Gee laid on a goal netted by Purton's full back Leigh Brown.
A lacklustre display in the second half, however, cost them dearly as Tuffley were gifted an equaliser by a Purton own goal on 76 minutes. Steve Bick then netted a second goal on 84 minutes with Warren Mann completing the scoring after 88 minutes.
The defeat saw Purton drop to third place in the table.
