DEER PARK Archers near Birdlip have again swept the board in the National Championships at Lilleshall.
The club produced five British champions, along with three silver medalists and two bronze medalists.
They may also have unearthed a future star in Chloe A’Bear, aged just eight from Meysey Hampton.
She finished third in the Junior Ladies Barebow behind her older clubmate Nicole Deasy with a score of 960.
Deer Park coach and organiser Roger Crang said: “This was the first time Chloe had competed at national level.
“Based on local competitions and the amount of effort and dedication she applies to her practice sessions, her achievement did not come as a surprise.
“Her stamina combined with excellent technique and determination was impressive for an eight-year-old who was shooting for more than six hours on one of the hottest days of the summer.”
Chloe is part of the Deer Park Archers Academy and has been shooting for almost two years. Her mum Caroline and her grandmother are both archers.
Deer Park Archers set three national records (and 15 personal bests) over the weekend and they represented Gloucestershire to win the Mixed Compound Team (James House, Lucy Mason and Leo Reeves), while the Mixed Recurve team of Charlotte Lunt, Liza Hadley, Tom House and Lexie Evans finished runners-up.
On Saturday, there were wins for Tom Howse (Metric 1 Recurve, recording 1267), while Beckie Hutchings (1287), James Howse (1396) and Lucy Mason (1407 – national record) were all winners in the Compund section. James Lawton (Compund) and Vicioria Fraser (Barebow) collected silver medals.
On Sunday, Riley Spencer-Nice, Nicole Deasy, Lucy Mason, James Howse and Izzy Henry all won gold medals.
Lucy broke her own National record when recording 143 out of 144 Golds!
Silver medals went to Tom Howse, Beckie Hutchings, James Lawton and Hamish Ponton.
In addition to Chloe’s bronze, Victoria Fraser became the second club member to win a British Championship medal in two different disciplines, Longbow and Barebow.
The only previous club member to do so, Stephanie Crang, went on to become a British senior champion.
Subsequently, Tom Howse qualified to represent GB at the World Youth Championships in China and Lucy Mason won the Junior Masters Ladies Compound n Sheffield. Deer Park Archers run beginners courses for juniors aged seven and upwards and offers pathways for both performance and recreational archers.
They are soon to move base to Endsleigh Park, Shurdington.
