FAIRFORD Tennis Club and Cricklade Rugby Football Club are to receive major grants from Sport England to improve their facilities.
Fairford TC will get a £48,600 windfall to pay for floodlighting and Cricklade can now move ahead with plans for a new changing room after being promised £50,000.
The grants are two of well over 300 projects across England receiving National Lottery investment from the fourth round of the Inspired Facilities Fund – part of its Olympic and Paralympic legacy programme – and one of more than 1,300 to benefit overall.
Subject to conditions including planning approval, Fairford TC will receive the grant to provide a power supply and floodlights to their two courts in the Walnut Tree Field.
This will enable evening tennis and coaching to carry on throughout the year, allowing the club to make a significantly increased contribution to the opportunities for regular sport in the area.
To celebrate the award, local people will be invited to a free taster session at Fairford TC – at a time and date to be confirmed. Please contact firstname.lastname@example.org to register.
Club Chairman, Tom Barton, said: “It is fantastic news for Fairford Tennis Club.
“It would have proved very difficult to raise this level of funds on our own and the funding opportunity from Sport England means we will be able to open up many more opportunities for the development of tennis for both juniors and adults in the future, particularly in the winter months.”
Cricklade RFC will receive £50,000 of lottery funding to support its changing facilities project.
Cricklade Club Chairman, Pete Clements said: “This is fantastic news for a small club like ours.
“It now allows us to begin what will be another exciting chapter in the club’s development with the ability to finally build changing facilities at Fairview Fields and bring rugby to a wider audience in the Cricklade area.
“We are extremely grateful to Sport England for this award.”
Sport England Chair, Nick Bitel said: “A year on from the Olympics, this National Lottery investment is helping us deliver a lasting sporting legacy in Cricklade and Fairford.”
“With investment now on offer from our Inspired Facilities Fund until 2017, we look forward to supporting many more sports clubs in the region who play such a vital role in grassroots sport.”
Many more communities are now set to benefit from the hugely popular fund, after Sport England announced that it was extending Insired Facilities until 2017, with an additional £40 million of National Lottery funding to invest.
Bids will be accepted for the next round of Inspired Facilities funding from the October 21. You can find out more at www.sportengland.org/inspiredfacilities.
