Cirencester pro has one hand on the Total Triumph Order of Merit trophy

CIRENCESTER Head Pro Ed Goodwin must be sick of the sight of European Tour Professional David Dixon.

For the fourth time in as many weeks, Goodwin had to settle for the runner-up spot behind Dixon at the Gloucestershire & Somerset PGA Medal – this time at Bristol’s Shirehampton course.

But because Dixon is not involved in the Total Triumph Order of Merit, Goodwin’s took the maximum ten points again and seems to have one hand on the trophy with just five more events to come before the Total Triumph Strokeplay Championship at his home course of Cirencester.

Dixon shot a two under par round of 65, while Goodwin hit a level par 67 on a perfect day for scoring.

Goodwin was disappointed to not have scored better with a few putts not dropping but was pleasantly surprised to see his score so high on the leaderboard at the end of the day.

He made his birdies at the 7th, 12th and 14th but they were wiped out with a double bogey at the 5th and another bogey at the 15th.

He now holds a massive 36-point lead in the series and it will take a spectacular effort by anyone to overhaul his lead at this late stage of the season.
