Poulton blast seven having been 3-0 down
6:51pm Sunday 17th March 2013 in Sport
Cirencester League Div 1.
Poulton 7 Lechlade 87 FC 5.
POULTON, trailing 3-0 at half-time, staged a remarkable recovery to score seven times in the second half to win handsomely in the end. Lechlade should have gone ahead in the first minute with a twice-taken penalty, due to encroachment, but both shots from Ollie Waite were superbly saved by Matt Genever in the Poulton goal. Lechlade continued to look dangerous and Johnny Sanders put them ahead after 20 minutes.
Further goals from Alex Hammond and Ashley Andrews gave Lechlade a commanding lead at the interval.
Terry Newport pulled one back for Poulton almost straight for the restart, only for Waite to get Lechlade’s fourth on 58 minutes.
But goals in the next five minutes from John Dawson and Terry Newport, which brought the score to 3-4, changed the course of the game.
Billy McKenna then equalised 15 minutes from time and Robbie Kingsbury gave Poulton the lead for the first time soon after.
Steve Andrews made it 6-4 with five minutes left but there was still time for Waite to score for Lechlade near the end. However, Andrews wrapped the game up with his second goal in the final minute.
