We could have nicked it at the end, says Hughes

CIRENCESTER TOWN earned a terrific point at title-chasing Merthyr Town to extend their unbeaten run to six - but influential midfielder Jamie Reid has picked up another injury.

With captain Shane Anson absent due to work commitments, Reid returned to the starting line-up for the first time since his recent three-match ban in the right back slot. He was back in the dressing room before half-time having been injured making a block.

“Reidy took a knock exactly where he had broken his leg earlier in the season and it didn’t look good on the night,” said Town boss Brian Hughes.

“He has had it X-rayed and, thankfully, there is no break.

“We were absolutely battered in the first half and we would have been ecstatic to take a point at the break. Glyn (Garner) made some good saves and Jon Beeden made two great clearances off the line.

“But we were by far the better team in the second half and, though it may have been unjust overall, we could have taken all three points with a great chance right at the end.”
