30 unanswered points from title-chasing Stow
9:03pm Sunday 24th February 2013 in Sport
Berks/Bucks & Oxon Premier.
Gosford All Blacks 0 Stow-on-the-Wold 30.
STOW scored 30 unanswered points to maintain their promotion push in a game played in Arctic conditions.
In the absence of Tim Peachey, Stow were ably led by Ben Ullmer Gosford missed an early penalty, one of their few scoring opportunities, and Stow were soon ahead.
Gosford won a line-out but elected to kick. Stow’s Ted Holmes collected the ball and weaved through would-be tacklers. After four more phases the ball went to James Holmes, who streaked to the line.
It was James Holmes who again powered over for Stow’s second try after Lewis Chapman had made great ground.
The next 20 minutes were scrappy and after one scuffle, the referee sin-binned a player from each team.
For their final score of the half, Stow stole a ball against the head and the ball went through seven phases before Ted Holmes raced over in the corner.
Stow were on the scoreboard again in the second half when Richard Huggett soared to take the ball at a line-out and the Stow forwards made 20 yards before Matt Green darted over for the try.
A subsequent solid forwards attack resulted in Chapman going over from five yards and then Ted Holmes added his second try after a long sweeping movement.
A serious injury to the Gosford scrum half stopped the game four minutes before full time.
