Under-strength Purton fail to cope with Woodstock

Uhlsport Hellenic Div 1 West.

Purton 0 Old Woodstock Town 3.

PURTON failed to end their winless run, after a disappointing end to 2012, when they went down 3-0 to Old Woodstock Town last Saturday at the Red House, writes Alan Eastwood.

Manager Chris Pethick could not call on McCrae, Coole, Gee, Avenell, Child, Mason, Miller, Fuller and C. Hall, who were all unavailable for a variety of reasons, so had to draft in reserve team players, Despite the 3-0 defeat, however, there was improvement compared to the heavy loss against Tytherington Rocks.

Richards and Crocker did not receive the best of service up front and efforts by Crocker, M. Hall, Gooch, Campbell and Townsend were the closest Purton got to scoring.

After just seven minutes, Woodstock's top goal-getter Bone was given far too much room in the box and put the visitors ahead. On the half-hour, Purton went 2-0 down after a goal-keeping error which Coyle capitalised on.

Five minutes from the end, Coyle was left unmarked as he steered home a cross from the right leaving Purton pointless again.
