YOUNGSTERS from the Cotswold Gymnastics Club got to meet some of their idols when they took part in GymFusion South West at the Wellsprings Leisure Centre in Taunton on Sunday.

The Cirencester-based Cotswold club were among 26 teams who attended throughout the day.

Special guests at the event were four Olympians from the London 2012 GB team including gymnast Jennifer Pinches and rhythmic gymnast Jade Faulkner, who is from South Marston near Swindon.

‘Circus and fairground’ was the theme for this year’s GymFusion South West and the Cotswold club performed their 'Queen Mash-up' routine which had gone down so well at their own Christmas show. Again the display was well received by the large crowd of spectators.

Cotswold coach Rachel Rogers said: “It was an opportunity for clubs to showcase their skills without the pressure of competition.

“The atmosphere is always fantastic which this year was made even more exciting by the presence of four members of the Olympic team from London 2012.

“They created a real buzz to the event and posed for pictures with the gymnasts and coaches as well as giving autographs.”

Katie Irwin, area manager of the British Gymnastics South West development team and organiser said: ‘We had 26 teams of gymnasts attending throughout the day, a variety of ages and abilities, disability gymnasts and adult groups performing, as well as tots doing cheerleading.
