Two-goal Collier earns Cirencester Town a point

Evo-Stik Southern Div 1 South & West.

Cirencester Town 2 Cinderford Town 2.

TWO GOALS from Sam Collier and a gutsy all-round display were not enough to claim all three points for Cirencester Town in their local derby with Cinderford.

Ciren have now gone eight league games without a victory.

There was one significant change to the Ciren line-up as Dave Evans had left the club after just five games and was replaced by veteran former Welsh international keeper Glyn Garner, who had moved on from Bath City at the start of the year.

Defender Chris Thompson was also missing, but through injury.

Cinderford drew first blood in the sixth minute when Lewis Sommers fired home a half volley from the edge of the box.

Minutes later, Sam Packer appeared to be hauled down by Foresters keeper Alex Harris in the box but won only a corner.

For the remainder of the half, Ciren piled on the pressure with Aiden Bennett, Ben Wells and George Washbourne all going close.

They did get a deserved equaliser in the 41st minute, Collier finishing off from close range after Harris had parried Packer’s initial shot.

Cirencester were ahead seven minutes into the second half thanks again to the combination of Packer and Collier, the latter firing home a powerful low shot from a tight angle.

In the 57th minute Cinderford were on level terms again.

There was a suspicion of offside as Sommers raced on to a long ball before rounding Garner to score his second of the game.

Both teams had a number of opportunities to score the winner, although perhaps the best chance came in added time when Collier flashed a header inches wide off a Wells free kick.

MoM: Sam Packer Cirencester Town: Garner, Bennett, Dunton, Allaway (capt), Henry, Washbourne, Wells, Shepherd, Collier, Packer, Mortimer-Jones.
