Goodwin misses out by one shot after 'mud ball' incident
9:14am Sunday 13th January 2013 in Sport
CIRENCESTER Golf Club pro Ed Goodwin can count himself unlucky not to have been among the winners at the first G&S PGA Medal of the year held at Minchinhampton Old Course.
Goodwin had to par the last to join the best scores at 69 (two under par) but he suffered a ‘mud ball’ which led to a bogey and total of 70.
Goodwin’s assistant pro James Harraway shot a 72 to also get among the points.
With the sun shining and very light winds, the layout over the Common didn’t prove the most taxing and three players broke 70: Bristol Golf Centre pro Giuseppe Licata, Burnham and Berrow assistant Shane Kaye and Somerset amateur Matt Kippen.
The share of first place saw Licata make a significant move towards the top of the Total Triumph Order of Merit as current leader Rod Hibbitt (Cotswold Edge) suffered an off day with a 73.
