Uhlsport Hellenic Div 1 West.

Carterton 1 Fairford Town 1.

WITH temperatures at -3 before kick-off and freezing fog well below the floodlights, credit to both sets of players for the manner in which the game was played at Kilkenny Lane on Tuesday evening.

Ben Mitchell denied Carterton a lead in the 21st minute with a low stop from the first real opening of the game.

Nathan Gambling then went close for Fairford before Shannon Pocock cut inside from the right on the half-hour and crashed an effort against the crossbar as the game warmed up.

Carterton then hit the post before the break, with Mitchell making another fine save to keep the scores level at the interval.

The opening goal of the game arrived on 57 minutes. A cross from the left by Colin Curtis was left by Gambling and the ball, having deceived the home keeper, bounced up for Jack Williams to head home from four yards.

The home side got their equaliser five minutes later when Mike Durden cut in from the right before seeing his shot sneak inside the near post.

Both teams tried to go on and win the encounter but despite some five minutes of added time, the night ended with a 1-1 draw.
