Hook Norton 3 Purton 1.
A MONTH ago Purton recorded a 6-0 home win over Hook Norton but last Saturday showed nothing like the same style and dash and were well beaten 3-1, writes Alan Eastwood.
Apart for a couple of players, it was a dismal showing by Purton. When they play at a fast pace, the team are a match for anyone but on Saturday their play was slow, ponderous and too many passes went astray giving 'Hookey' a lot of possession.
Unavailable central defender Johnny Coole was a sad miss at the back and Hook Norton dominated the game for long periods. They went ahead after 12 minutes, although the scorer looked distinctly offside.
Hookey added two more goals midway through the second half with Purton able to pull one goal back only through an excellent Darren Brown free kick which beat the home keeper from 22 yards.
Purton used all three subs late in the second half with Richard Crocker bringing some pace into the attack, but Hookey enjoyed sweet revenge on their previous drubbing.
