Lechlade's 1953 World Champ Stan Dibben swaps stories with new kid on the block

STAN DIBBEN, 1953 World Sidecar passenger from Lechlade, met his modern day equivalent at Mallory Park's recent International Sidecar Festival.

Stan, 87, teamed up with the newly-crowned 2012 World Champion passenger Ashley Hawes, a 26-year-old from Ashford.

Both he and Hawes had plenty to talk about, comparing passenger styles and machinery over a period of nearly 60 years.

And as Stan pointed out, he and his driver Eric Oliver were the last world champions to win on a British motorcycle – a Norton.

Stan, a fine ambassador for his sport, will also present the trophies at the Formula Sidecar Association's annual dinner in the middle of November.
