IT WAS a cold, wet and windy day in Preston on Sunday, however, I’m very pleased to report that when I crossed the finish line of the Preston Marathon in a time of 3:14.03, I not only moved to within one more marathon of my dream but also became the first person in the UK to run 250 sub-3:15 marathons, writes Steve Edwards.

It was a thoroughly miserable day, to be honest, which is a shame because the event itself was superbly organised by the Guild Hall with closed roads, enthusiastic marshals and excellent feed stations.

But, in the end, I was glad to get back for my hot shower and cup of tea, only then did it really sink in that I made a little bit of history.

Even those two running legends, Liz McGolgan and Ron Hill that I was lucky enough to meet in Preston, could not believe what I had already achieved.

Next stop, of course, is the finale when I attempt to run my 500th sub-3hr 30min race at the The Fox@40 Marathon, Caldecotte Lake in Milton Keynes on Sunday week (November 11) for that final bit of history.
