Cirencester radio to hit the airwaves again

FLEDGLING broadcasters at Corinium Radio are planning a second outing onto the airwaves just in time to catch all the excitement of the Cirencester Advent Festival in November.

The first broadcast was for two days in May and the second broadcast in November will build on the success of the inaugural transmission.

The intention for the forthcoming broadcast is to produce the same mix of community-based programmes but with an even bigger audience in November.

The 'not for profit' community radio project is unique in Cirencester and the ultimate goal is to achieve a permanent radio facility that benefits all sectors of the town's community.

Cotswold District Council has offered temporary space in the centre of Cirencester for the next broadcast, which will be for three days between November 17 and 19.

The start of Corinium Radio was made possible by support from Cotswold District Council, a cash grant from South West Arts and also by using equipment borrowed from Forest Of Dean Radio.

The people involved are volunteers from a wide variety of backgrounds who are all passionate about using radio for the benefit of Cirencester.

Although it's difficult to know precisely how far the first transmission was broadcast the most distant reports of reception came from Birdlip, Cricklade, Poulton and Kemble.

Corinium Radio's first duty is as a 'not for profit', organisation that has at its heart the ethos of community involvement/involvement in the community.

To be successful Corinium Radio needs to find supporters who share its vision of building long-term sustainable partnerships.

If anyone is interested in advertising on the airwaves or making a programme for the next 3-day broadcast they can visit the Corinium Radio web site at www.coriniumradio.co.uk
