PUPILS from Cirencester Kingshill School will host sporting activities for 40 girls from local primary schools on Friday to promote the benefits of PE and school sport.
The ‘Primary Girls Can’ day, named after Sport England’s This Girl Can campaign, forms part of activities for the Girls Active programme, an initiative run by the Youth Sport Trust and Women in Sport to tackle the relatively lower levels of physical activity participation by girls.
As Girls Active leaders, the team of 14-16-year-olds are charged with encouraging 50 more girls to get involved in sport.
The events are taking place on the final day of National School Sport Week, delivered by the Youth Sport Trust which is taking place from between June 22 and June 26.
Since 2009, 22,000 schools and 9.6 million young people have taken part in National School Sport Week. This year schools are being urged to devote a full week to sporting themes and events and ultimately encourage all their young people to take part in five hours of PE and sport.
