THE importance of wellbeing was drilled into students at St Mary’s Primary School in Tetbury during a week of activities, earlier this month.

Wellbeing week at the school saw the children take part in various energetic activities such as yoga, football, rugby, ballet, tennis and climbing, in an effort to make them aware of the benefit of a healthy lifestyle.

They also had the chance to meet rugby stars, Rugby Football Union coach Ceri Large, who plays England’s Women’s rugby team, and Terry Fanolua, a Gloucester Rugby legend, who is now a community coach at the club.

As well as exercising, the children also had the chance to eat healthy foods.

The Year 3 and 4 children were also treated to a food demonstration from. Masterchef finalist, and Cotswold chef Andrew Kojima.

Pupils were quick to praise the event and said they enjoyed the activities, but conceded some were a little bit testing.

Charlotte Maisey, 7, said: “It was great, it was the best week of my whole life.”

She added that all the exercise had made her feel sleepy.

Alex Toft, 7, said he enjoyed tucking into a delicious healthy breakfast with his class mates that included natural yoghurt, melon and apple.

Jack Thorn and Holly Elliot said they enjoyed doing yoga was one of the best activities they tried during the week.

Jack,11, said: “ It was a bit painful, because I have never done it before but it was pretty enjoyable.”

Ceri Large, who is from the Forest of Dean, talked about life as a rugby player and helped teach a PE lesson during her visit.

She said: “It always good to come back to Gloucestershire.

“I started at this age. I think it is good for all age. It is good for them to take part in all sports not just rugby. ”

She added that she said that a message she would send out was just go out and enjoy it.
