SCHOOL discos at Kempsford Primary School will be even more popular from now on thanks to one pupil’s competition success.

Year 6 pupil Hanna Doherty was bursting with good ideas when she entered a national competition run by PTA magazine to win a popcorn maker for her school.

The competition, which had over 300 entrants, asked students to say in no more than 100 words how their school would use a popcorn maker for fundraising.

Ten year-old Hanna said that she would ask people to take a blindfold flavour popcorn challenge, with flavours including chocolate and strawberries and mustard and gherkins.

Her ideas were judged good enough to win Kempsford school a 4oz popcorn maker, which the school to raise funds at school events such as fetes, discos and the annual fun run.

Chair of The Friends of Kempsford School Philippa Griffin was thrilled with Hanna’s success. “We are all really delighted. We wanted to buy a popcorn maker to bring out at all our events. It is such an achievement for a small school to win this great prize. Hanna was beaming from ear to ear.”

The popcorn maker will get its first use at the school’s next big event, the annual fun run on June 29 at 3pm. “Hanna wants to sell the first bag of popcorn,” said Mrs Griffin. “But I’m not sure we will use any of the more unusual flavour combinations she suggested.”
