Comments were just not cricket

I WOULD like to respond to your Lights Out column in last week’s edition of your paper.

Mr Light seemed quite happy to celebrate the promotion of Lechlade but threw a dampner on Adlestrop winning their title.

To say the Adlestrop players were a little aggrieved is an understatement. We have been in the Cirencester League for 13 seasons and strive to play our cricket in a friendly but positive way.

It took us nine years to win our first title and now someone is knocking our success.

As a team we have suffered the lows and the highs that our weekend hobby has bought us. We are now enjoying our success, because as we all know, in sport the bad times will return at some stage.

Mr Light’s comments were in bad taste about a club and players he knows nothing about. No one in the club is a 'pot hunter' we take part in sport for our enjoyment, winning is a bonus.

As you may be aware I have spoken to Mr Light and he is sticking to his opinions so I take it an apology to the club is out of the question!

Editor’s note: John Light’s popular column is just that, Mr Keen, a column - through which he expresses his own personal views. It is sometimes controversial but always good humoured – both desirable characteristics of a columnist. I am sorry Adlestrop players feel aggrieved but I congratulate them all on their recent successes.
