Rejection in the school playground brought me to tears
1:58pm Wednesday 18th July 2012 in Letters
TAKING my granddaughter to school and waiting in the playground to go into school I watched something that brought tears to my eyes.
A Mum was handing out invitations to her child's birthday party. She handed one each to two children standing in the line, then by-passed the next child, the look of hurt and rejection on that child's face made me want to cry.
Though I understand that Mums cannot afford to entertain her child's whole class by inviting them all, maybe they could be a bit more thoughtful to the feelings of those children she is not inviting and use a bit of discretion when handing out invitations.
Maybe schools could come up with a method for handing out invitations that takes into consideration the feelings of the children. The look on that child's face - so hurt, has stayed in my mind.
So Mums, please, a little bit of tact. One day it could be your child with that look on their face of being rejected.
