ON THURSDAY, July 5, I and my daughter, Rebecca Jobes, completed our 100-mile sponsored walk in aid of CLIC Sargent and Hope for Tomorrow.
This was a repeat of the same walk that I did in 1987 when I raised money then for the Jonathon Love Appeal and Life Pak 5 Appeal, which was Councillor Ray Sanderson’s mayoral appeal.
So as this was 25 years ago and Ray is mayor again in 2012, and his mayoral appeal is to help Hope for Tomorrow, a charity that I wanted to help, we decided to do the walk again.
I persuaded my daughter to walk this time, and I congratulate her for a tremendous achievement in completing the 100 miles.
It was a hard walk this time, with injury and blisters to contend with plus a rainy few days to start with.
The walk has raised and promised £4,000 so far which is a tremendous amount and Becci and I would like to take this opportunity to say thank you and how much we appreciate the support of the individuals and businesses that have kindly sponsored us.
Besides this, on the run up to the walk we had a very successful cake stall, a thank you to Summer Café and to those who made lovely cakes. Also my son Daniel Jobes who organised a football tournament at Cirencester Football Indoor Arena which was also very successful.
Also to Abbey News and manager Diane for giving us a window display to publicise the walk and to Hilditch, Malmesbury and Tetbury District Round Table and Mindvision.
A big thank you to Penny, my wife, for kindly being back-up vehicle with much needed medical supplies and refreshment all week.
When we have collected all the money, later on in the year we will present it to the two charities.
We would also like to thank PD Fitness, Malmesbury, not only for their generous financial support but also for the free sports massage that myself and Becci were given just after the walk on Thursday which was much needed.
I would also like to thank the Standard for help with the publicity leading up to the walk.
