Gloucester Street party for jubilee cemented spirit of community in Cirencester
4:43pm Wednesday 13th June 2012 in Letters
I WOULD like to thank the residents of Gloucester Street, Barton Lane and Gooseacre Lane for making the Gloucester Street Party such as success on Sunday, June 3. From the boat at one end to the vintage coach at the other, it was lovely to see people of all ages (two months to 92 years) joining in the festivities. No one objected, everyone contributed in some way or other, from organising music, to putting up bunting, to agreeing to move their cars – a wonderful community effort.
The Buchanan Family won the Best Dressed Table competition with their recreation of the Coronation menu and they are now happily dividing up the prize - a hamper donated by Jenny from our new delicatessen, Olive in Cirencester. And although this was not a fundraising event, the money raised will cover the costs of the event plus a modest donation to Cirencester Outdoor Pool.
So once again thank you to everyone for their support and here’s to many similar gatherings!
