Why all the fuss about council prayers?

MANY letters have argued about council prayers over recent months. I served on Cotswold District Council from 1991 to 2007 and during that time we had one chairman who did not have prayers before council meetings. There was no prior discussion or vote, the prayers just stopped during that chairman's term of office. What happened as result? Well, nothing really. I think most councillors didn't notice. Hey - what fun - Fairford on the front page and all those other pictures made last week's Standard a memorable edition.
I just wish you'd caught a picture of Jan Cory - who organises our Festival Queen competition with her bum in the air, leaning over bails of hay, trying to make sure one of the little flower fairies didn't fall off the float.
What a fun weekend it was.
