Hope for Fairford and Lechlade joint projects
11:10am Wednesday 25th April 2012 in Letters
I WAS very disappointed to read the comments made by town councillors Cusack and Roberts regarding Lechlade Library. I can only hope they will enjoy the extra hours that Fairford library will receive now that the decision to withdraw county support for Lechlade has been confirmed. I would like to thank those Fairford Town Councillors who did support the proposition to transfer the extra nine hours that Fairford Library was given, to Lechlade Library. This enabled us to put a very robust case to GCC for keeping our library open. Unfortunately GCC are determine that Lechlade will no longer have a county run library.
In answer to Councillor Cusack, I would sincerely hope that Lechlade Town Council would support Fairford if the situation were to be reversed even after such negative comments from himself and Councillor Roberts. I am afraid that Councillor Roberts comments were incorrect, in fact Fairford has 14.8 per cent regular library users compared to 21 per cent in Lechlade.
I sincerely hope we can now put this behind us and I look forward to working with Fairford on future joint projects such as the Multi-use path between our two towns.
CLLR CHRISTINE EATWELL Mayor of Lechlade
