I REFER to the feature article in the Standard (July 8) regarding the Cotswold Canal Trust and its attempt to reopen the Thames and Severn Canal.
Whilst I can fully appreciate John Peel's concerns regarding the cost and water supply of the canal, he overlooks one advantage of permitting access to the canal through his land, namely to create a public right of way between Kempsford and Lechlade for walkers to enjoy the countryside between these two places without having to negotiate busy roads.
The creation of this ‘green corridor’ would incur comparative minimal costs and benefit walkers, especially those who follow the Thames Path, which is at present routed along the main A361 between Inglesham and Lechlade.
Perhaps Mr Peel could open up a refreshment stall to create another income stream (no pun intended!) for himself.
