MR GAY’S letter (Standard, July 20) purports to speak for us all regarding the Fleece’s new colour scheme. I find the new colour pleasing.
I’m a born and bred southerner but I think his, I hope, “tongue in cheek” comments offensive to northerners. There are enough divisions in our society already.
The blue colour will mellow soon due to dust and pollution. This reminds me of some of the comments regarding the church porch some time ago, all the conservators did was clear off the grime that was eating into the Cotswold stone and it’s the colour it was when built.
To the rest of the country we are another town in England so don’t give up on Cirencester Mr Gay, go and have a pint in the Fleece instead.
