FURTHER to the numerous letters regarding town centre traffic and the council’s epic failure to address these issues, I was under the impression that the object of the very costly regeneration plan was to dissuade traffic from entering the town, but unfortunately this has not happened.

Portus Whitton (based in Cirencester!) were paid vast sums of money by our council to plan this scheme and in my opinion it is not fit for purpose. I am the mother of teenagers who could have done a better job!

Perhaps what we need now is to spend hundreds of thousands of pounds for another ‘feasibility study,’ or alternatively, we could dissuade traffic from coming down Cricklade Street by making the turnings onto Ashcroft Road and Querns Lane ‘no right turn.’ (I am happy to accept huge sums of money for this advice!)

How can the planners have failed to foresee that by making Castle Street a ‘no right turn,’ traffic would be forced down Cricklade Street?

Also, there have yet to be ‘no parking’ markings on the bridge to Somerford Road and opposite Silver Street on Castle Street. I would imagine they are waiting on another ‘feasibility study’ to guide them!

I would welcome comments from town planners on when we might expect to see the aforementioned road markings…
