“MOST people live lives of quiet desperation.” Do you agree?
Henry Thoreau (American writer) believed it to be true, and he’s been quoted thousands of times since by many who think it’s right – that whatever we look like on the outside, inside we are struggling, nervous, worried and even desperate.
Is there a cure? Can we become content? Is a peaceful heart and mind possible?
Probably not completely, at least not in this lifetime. However, it is possible to move a long way in that direction - and to leave desperation behind us.
How? Give this a try.
Sit down quietly, and ask yourself “What makes me worried? Why do I feel like this?” Write down the answers that come to mind. And then (and this is the dangerous bit) ask God the same thing.
These words from a song in the bible are a good way to do it:
“Examine me God, and know my mind; test me, and discover my thoughts. Find out if there is any evil in me and guide me in the everlasting way” (Psalms 139:23-24).
You may take one step closer to peace.
