IN RECENT weeks various political parties launched their manifestos. They were canvassing for votes and attempting to sell their ideas of a new future.

One thing is clear from all we have heard, seen or read: no single manifesto is able to achieve universal appeal or relevance to all. Not today, tomorrow, nor in the future, no matter how good the intentions. There is one exception though, written several millennia ago.

An inspired writer penned these, even before the one to whom they referred arrived on the scene. In his own words:

“The Spirit of the Lord is upon me; he has appointed me to preach Good News to the poor; he has sent me to heal the broken hearted and to announce that captives shall be released and the blind shall see, that the downtrodden shall be freed from their oppressors, and that God is ready to give blessings to all who come to him” (The Holy Bible, New Living Translation, Tyndale Publisher, 1971).

Good news for the poor; healing the broken hearted; sight to the blind; freeing the downtrodden from the oppressors’ vice; and above all, blessings, which we so dearly need today like never before!

The truth is that this manifesto operates over a universal jurisdiction through the person of Jesus Christ, the Saviour. He is ever ready to extend his gift to anyone who readily, and willingly, receives Him with His free offer.

Like we accorded our politicians, whilst we reflected on who should get our votes, let us also give Him a chance and unbiased consideration!
